Why Teaching? For me I have always wanted to teach Math because it has always been my favorite subject. I would want to teach high school because the kids would be more mature then Junior High kids and they would give more respect then younger age groups. I would want to teach at my old high school which was Naperville North High School. I know that I have a lot of references at that school and I have a good reputation with the hiring committee there and with the staff. I believe that the numerous nice and kind teachers that helped me throughout my life led me to wanting to be like them. When I was in elementary as well, I had to do a lot of math work for my teachers which was simple addition and subtraction and other things like that. So I believe that helped with my desire to become a math teacher. DiversityFor each group of kids in my class, I will make sure that they except and treat each other equally despite their differences in culture. For the race and ethnics of each student in the class, I will spread them out and make each group diverse at the tables in class. So that stereotypes can't be applied at the tables. For socioeconomic placings for each student in the class, I will make sure that they don't make fun of each other and discourage students from mentioning their families status in the economy. For language differences, I will try to help the kids who speak different languages in the class with understanding the concepts talked about in class and make sure that if they have any questions, they could talk to me afterwards and I would make time to help them better understand the concepts. For class genders, I wont make stereotypes about boys and girls and place them equally as best as I can among each other so that there isn't gender bias in the class. For sexual orientation and bullying, I will make sure on the first day of each class and observe throughout the year that kids don't get bullied because of their gender or orientation or get bullied in general and let them know if they have any complaints about something someone said to them or what someone said to the general group, they can let me know after class and I can try to help to the best of my ability with that situation. Lastly, for religious diversity, I will let them know that they can follow their religion freely without judgement or criticism. Multiple IntelligencesMy review of the multiple intelligence test surprised me a little bit. It showed me as more intrapersonal then logical or mathematic. When I was younger I was the opposite. But I would assume that over time, as I grew friendships I became more intrapersonal and less logical or mathematic because I valued my friendships more. It showed me that I do like to be a leader and that I like to help others too. So since I want to be a teacher, this is a very good thing for me to be personality wise. Drop-out/Restorative JusticeFrom what I understand about high school drop outs, they did not ever want to drop out when they were growing up. The family situations and the quality of teaching and education they got led them to dropping out. If their family was really poor and they did not have a lot of money to support each other, I believe that could have caused some students to drop out. The quality of education students receive is also a factor into why they drop out of high school. A lack of school supplies and good teachers who want to see their students achieve at their education and who support them can cause the education of students to suffer and worsen as they grow and get older. I believe that teachers in all grade levels can and should make more of an effort to help kids who are at risk of dropping out. If teachers can help students to believe that they can change their path to a better one for their future, then the drop out rates for students in high school would decrease significantly. Teachers can show students these paths and come up with ways on how they can come out of the rough situation that they are in academically which can impact their families as a result. Welcome LetterDear Parents and Students, Welcome to the school year! I am so excited to be your teacher or child's teacher this year! I wanted to let you all know a little bit about myself before we start class this semester. My name is Mr. Easler and I have been teaching for over 5 years going on 6. I went to Northern Illinois University to receive my degree in teaching and to receive my license to teach in Illinois. I grew up in Naperville and went to Naperville North myself so I know the school very well. When I was a student here, I received the Phoenix Award which I am very proud of. I have a wife and 2 children who I care about very much. I also have always loved math and teaching it so I cannot wait until the first day of class! As a teacher, I strive to make sure that every race and culture is acknowledged and respected in the classroom so that bullying can be eliminated. If I see any bullying going on or sense that there is bullying going on I will have a talk with the student or students to make sure it doesn't happen again. But if it does, then I will follow the school policy for bullying. Some rules and codes of conduct that I have help insure that everyone can learn in a safe and productive environment. They include, 1. Homework: Everyday there will be some form of a homework assignment unless special circumstances come up. But I will check and grade the homework only for completion every Monday of the week. 2. Snacks: Because of allergies, I ask that each student not bring in any form of peanut or tree nut into class to ensure that no one has a reaction. If your child has a more specific allergy or other allergy that you are concerned about, please email me right away so that I can know and help keep your child safe. 3. Grading: I will grade your student by the standards set by Naperville North which are, 40% Tests 20% Quizzes 20% Homework 20% Final exam You can contact me via email or by my phone which are listed below. If you need to have a conference with me about your child then please email me in advance and we can set up a time to meet. My email: [email protected] My Phone Number: 630-420-7567 If you have any questions about homework or classwork then please come and see me! I am usually in my office around or at 7:00 every day and I am free during periods 5, 6, and 2. Lets have a great semester and a great school year! Go Huskies! Mr. Easler (Dawson Easler) :-) Racism and Desegregation Poster Life InfluencesI would say that there are 2 moments in my life that had affected my schooling the greatest. One of them was during my Chemistry class in my senior year of high school and the other was all throughout my Junior High years. My chemistry class senior year was one of the best science classes I had ever taken. Mainly because of the teacher who helped us understand what to do and how to do it. It was so understandable that I even taught for a day in there! I was doing my work one day in class while we had busy work and one of my friends had asked me to help them with the work since she didn't know how to do it. So I helped her and I thought it would be best to teach it on the whiteboard in the front of the class. Little did I know, that by the time I finished the problem I was teaching her, the whole class was paying attention to me and what I was writing. I got nervous but my teacher encouraged me to keep going so by the time the class period was done, my friends said I had taught the concept better then my teacher did! I learned in my chemistry class that I was meant to be a teacher and it greatly encouraged my inspiration to teach. In my Junior High years, I would say that I learned the most socially then any other time in my life. The reason I learned about social skills the most was because I have Autism. It had affected me a lot in my life but thankfully it doesn't affect me as much now. But back in Junior High, it controlled my life. I was bullied and picked on and taken advantage of all the time and I had never known why or how it was caused. But despite the disadvantages of my Junior High years, I had learned the most because of these things. Each time I was bullied and taken advantage of, I learned how it was caused and tried to change my reactions for next time so that things would work out better. Eventually because of this, I was able to finally hold a normal conversation with someone. Which back then was almost impossible for me to even think about doing. So my Junior High years were rough at times. But without them, I would have never become who I am today. My teachers that I liked the most were Mr. Cole from Chemistry in my senior year, Mrs. Brandes from my Junior High English class, Mr. Rubo from my senior year Pre-Calculus class, and Mrs. Garza from my 8th grade Science class in Junior high. They always helped me and tried to give me the support I needed and they were the nicest teachers I could ever remember. I would say they were my heroes in school because they looked out for me and stood with me for as long as they could. One thing that was of major importance for me when I graduated was getting ready to go to College of Dupage. I had to learn about how things worked there and how I would fit in to the culture of the school. My family expected me to live with them for the first couple of years as they supported me throughout my college life. They are always supporting me and wanting to guide me to my next goals in life. Overall, my schooling was a big influence on my life and without it, I wouldn't be where I am today. NSBA Students with Disabilities PolicyI believe that the report from the NSBA on the IDEA is very informative and important for people to know what is going on for students with disabilities in schools. But I am upset about how the current standards for funding for students with disabilities are not being met. Kids with disabilities sometimes can not advocate for themselves that they need support and the government should realize that. They should help these kids in schools by giving the right amount of funding that they said they would to this cause so that kids with disabilities can be successful in school. Cyber bullyingI believe that there are certain signs to detect when a child is either being a cyber bully or is being cyber bullied. ITypically these signs are shown among children when they are:
Being a cyber bully: - If your child starts to hang out with the so called wrong crowd. - If your child doesn't talk about what they are doing online very much or at all. - If your child starts to show violent tendencies - If your child tends to use multiple online accounts or uses a account that is not their own. - If your child is increasingly withdrawn or isolated from your family. Being cyber bullied: - If your child is oversleeping or not sleeping enough. - If your child frequently calls home or texts from school saying that they feel ill and want to come home. - If your child starts to make passing statements about suicide or the meaningless of life. - If your child starts to spend more time with you then with their friends. - If your child seems regularly depressed.
